How the Spirit Helps You Fight the Flesh on a Tuesday

Scripture: Jeremiah 31
Most of us know what it’s like to wake up determined to “do better.” We mean to be patient, gentle, prayerful, and kind. But by Tuesday afternoon—after the meeting, the noise, the traffic, or the toddler—we feel the old heart rising again.
That is where the New Covenant meets real life.
In Jeremiah 31, God promised His people a new heart. Not another set of rules. Not a stronger warning label. A new heart. One that could finally love Him from the inside out. Pastor Jamie reminded us that this is what Christ has done for us through the Spirit. We don’t just have a better system; we have a better source.
Paul writes in Galatians 5:17, “The flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.” That’s the daily battle. The old nature still pushes toward pride, comfort, and control, but the Spirit pushes back with new desires. He doesn’t erase the struggle... He empowers the fight.
The Spirit whispers truth when your temper flares. He reminds you of grace when shame speaks louder. He prompts repentance before regret takes root. He is not an occasional visitor but a constant presence as your helper, advocate, and strength.
And when you fail, He doesn’t leave. Romans 8:11 says, “The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.” That means the same power that rolled the stone away is the power that helps you get back up again.
So when Tuesday comes, and the old patterns start to pull, remember this: you are not fighting alone, and you are not fighting to earn God’s favor. You are fighting from it. The Spirit within you is proof that the battle belongs to the Lord—and He never loses.
