God is Light

Pastor Jon Moorhead - 6/29/2025

Pastor Jon Moorhead opened a sermon series on 1 John by emphasizing the central theme of assurance through fellowship with the God of light and love. Drawing from the imagery of light, he outlined how Jesus is the revealed Word of Life who brings revelation, transformation, and affirmation, enabling believers to walk in the light through confession, obedience, and sacrificial love. He concluded by affirming all believers—whether new in faith, spiritually maturing, or seasoned—are strengthened, forgiven, and united through Christ, our eternal advocate.

Weekly Reflection

““Because Christ the incarnate Son is our advocate, we can confidently walk together in the light…” — From Sunday’s sermon, Fellowship Through the Light of Christ”
On Sunday we heard that walking in the light means more than avoiding sin. It means walking in truth with one another—confessing, forgiving, and loving without retreat. The promise of 1 John 1:7 is stunning: "If we walk in the light…we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.” But what if walking in the light feels unsafe? What if past wounds, broken trust, or unrepentant sin in the church have made you cautious—guarded—even in your Gospel Community? Confession is not wallowing in shame. It’s saying what God says about sin. And in doing that, we expose the gospel.

This Week’s Challenge:
Practice light-walking. Confess sin. Name a fear. Encourage a brother or sister you’ve kept at a distance. Bring truth into a relationship where you’ve been vague. The light exposes, but it also heals.
