Unstrange Fire

Pastor Jamie Self - 10/26/2025

In Unstrange Fire, Pastor Jamie Self walks through the dramatic story of Korah’s rebellion in Numbers 16, highlighting the Israelites’ defiance against God’s appointed leadership and their failure to obey His covenant. God's holy judgment is swift and severe, but His gracious provision through a high priest who intercedes on behalf of the people foreshadows the work of Jesus Christ. Believers are not only saved by Christ's intercession but are also called to live as a royal priesthood, interceding for others and actively proclaiming God's mercy in everyday life.

Weekly Reflection

“God’s judgment is severe, but His provision is greater”
When Korah and his company rose up in rebellion, they were not just rejecting Moses and Aaron. They were rejecting God's appointed order and forgetting His mercy. Their complaint revealed deep ingratitude that distorted reality. They even called Egypt the land of milk and honey and accused God of injustice. Yet in the face of defiance, God did more than judge. He provided. Aaron, the appointed high priest, stood with incense between the dead and the living, and the plague stopped. This was more than a ritual; it was a gospel picture. Jesus would later step into the ultimate breach, not just risking death but absorbing God’s wrath in order to bring life. Where are you grumbling against God’s design or leadership? What have you minimized about His provision? This story reminds us that it is no small thing to be brought near by grace. It is also no small calling to intercede for others with that same grace.

This Week’s Challenge:
Heart Check: Are you minimizing God’s grace by complaining about what He hasn’t given? Practice: As soon as you catch yourself grumbling (whether in traffic, at work, or in your home) pause and name one mercy you’ve received that you didn’t deserve. Use this opportunity to pray for someone who is far from Christ. Ask God to move you toward them in love today.
