Overflow

Pastor Jamie Self - 3/8/2026

Jesus teaches that citizens of His kingdom live as rock-built people whose hearts overflow with mercy, forgiveness, generosity, and love for enemies. The sermon explains that believers remove judgment and condemnation by filling their hearts with the mercy of God revealed through Jesus Christ and His saving work. A transformed heart produces visible fruit through forgiveness, humble self-examination, faithful discipleship, and a life that reflects the abundant grace of the gospel.

Weekly Reflection

“esus teaches that the fruit of our lives flows from the treasure stored in our hearts. Mercy, forgiveness, generosity, and love grow from a heart filled with the grace of Christ.”
Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Plain by directing attention to the heart. Words, reactions, and relationships reveal the treasure stored within. Pastor Jamie described this with a simple picture: filling a jar with water pushes the air out. In the same way, the love of Christ fills the heart and pushes out bitterness, judgment, and resentment as mercy begins to overflow. The gospel forms a new heart that produces new fruit. A heart captivated by the mercy of Jesus begins to forgive, give generously, and speak life to others. The grace received from Christ becomes the grace shared with neighbors, enemies, and family members.
