Heart Water (Love from the Overflow)

Pastor Jamie Self - 3/22/2026

This sermon presents Luke 7:36–50 as a clear picture of the kingdom of God where forgiveness through Jesus produces overflowing worship described as “heart water,” a deep expression of repentance, gratitude, and love . The sinful woman embodies wisdom’s children by recognizing her need for forgiveness, receiving grace, and responding with wholehearted devotion that reveals a transformed heart. The Pharisee represents a heart that trusts in personal righteousness, and Jesus teaches that true peace and salvation come through faith in Him, the One who forgives sin and absorbs its cost.

Weekly Reflection

“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
The scene invites us into a heart-level response to grace. A woman who knows her need meets a Savior who forgives, and her life overflows in worship described as “heart water.” This passage brings a searching question: does my life carry that same overflow of gratitude, or does my posture remain measured and restrained? Jesus shows that awareness of forgiveness awakens deep affection, and that affection expresses itself in visible devotion.
