Hear to Cast Out Fear

Pastor Jamie Self - 4/26/2026

In Luke 8:22–39, Jesus calms a storm and casts out a legion of demons — two displays of the same power met with two very different responses. The question Luke forces on us is not whether we have faith, but where our faith is located and what happens to our fears when Jesus shows up. If little fears rule your life, perhaps you've heard about Jesus but you haven't yet seen him.

Weekly Reflection

“If little fears rule our lives, then we've heard about Jesus — but we haven't actually seen him”
We are all afraid of something. The question the sermon pressed on us is not whether we have faith, but where our faith is actually located right now. A heart ruled by financial anxiety, fear of what others think, or dread of the future hasn't necessarily rejected Jesus — it just hasn't fully seen him yet. The good news is that sight produces fear, and the right fear casts out all the others.

This Week’s Challenge:
Pause and ask: What am I afraid of this week, and what does that fear tell me about what I've truly seen of Jesus? Name one person in your life you will point to Christ this week — not with a sermon, but with a sentence that says: He is bigger than this.
