Faith that Falls

Pastor Jamie Self - 5/3/2026

In this message from Luke 8, Pastor Jamie Self walks us through two unlikely scenes where a synagogue ruler and an unclean woman both end up face down at the feet of Jesus. True faith is not just standing near Jesus in the crowd. It surrenders, falls, and trusts the One who is worthy. Whether you feel like you have it all together or feel too unclean to belong, the way into the family of God is the same: faith that falls.

Weekly Reflection

“Faith that hears is faith that falls. Standing near Jesus is not the same thing as falling at his feet”
In Luke 8, two unlikely people end up on the floor at the feet of Jesus. A synagogue ruler with a dying daughter pushes through the crowd and goes face down in the dirt. An unclean woman who has been bleeding for twelve years trembles her way to the ground in front of him. One came from above and position. One came from below with nothing to offer. Same Savior, same posture, same family. Most of us have figured out how to stay close to Jesus without ever falling at his feet. We come to church, we know our doctrine, we manage the family, we listen to the sermon. We are in the crowd, pressed in, but never on our face. True faith is not just standing close. It surrenders, and it surrenders visibly.
