Salvation Pays a Visit

In this sermon on Luke 19:1-10, Pastor Jamie explores the story of Zacchaeus, the wealthy chief tax collector who climbs a tree just to catch a glimpse of Jesus and ends up receiving him into his home and his heart. Rather than treating salvation as a transaction we work for, the sermon shows that salvation is a person, Jesus himself, who walks into our house and changes what we love before he asks us to change what we do. Through Zacchaeus's joyful gift of half his wealth, we see what it looks like to step off the throne of our own kingdom and live for the King who has come to seek and save the lost.
Weekly Reflection
“Salvation walked into the door. A person, Jesus, walked into Zacchaeus's house. That's why salvation is there.”
It is easy to slide into thinking of salvation as a transaction, something we earn through good behavior, church attendance, or spiritual effort, and then feel shortchanged when life does not go the way we expected. Zacchaeus shows us a different picture. He did not clean up his life to earn a visit from Jesus. Jesus came to him first, called him by name, and it was that encounter that changed everything he loved, including his money. The question worth sitting with this week is whether we are quietly waiting for Jesus to fix our kingdom, or whether we have actually stepped off our own throne to live in his.
